CPR/AED for the layperson(CPR)
The Health Education Network offers several American Heart Association CPR courses and a variety of ways to complete the courses.
The AHA HeartSaver AED course is a video based course designed to teach the layperson how to respond to a medical emergency with skill and a high level of confidence. It is great for corporations, government agencies or any groups that need to generate an AHA card for one reason or another. The course usually takes about 2.5 hours to complete, depending upon how many students there are and how many questions the students have. The HeartSaver course generates an AHA card which is good for two years. This course covers adult, child and infant CPR/AED as well as adult, child and infant choking. It also stresses keeping the first responder safe in order to prevent the volunteer from becoming a victim. We can tailor the course to meet the specific needs or circumstances of any organization or group that is in need of this important training.
We also offer the American Heart Association course entitled Friends and Family, designed primarily to teach CPR to be used in a medical emergency that happens in and around the home. While this course covers much of the same ground as the HeartSaver AED course, it focuses more time on having students respond to various scenarios that they might run into in the real world in addition to working on specific skill sets. The Friends and Family course does not generate an American Heart Association card. This course can be customized to meet the specific needs for individual families, groups or organizations. Friends and Family is also a video based course that typically takes about 2.5 hours to complete, depending upon the number of students in the class and the number of questions asked.
We don't have any regularly scheduled CPR courses, but when we set one up, we post them on our calendar, click here.
For individuals or small groups that need CPR certification, a great alternative to the traditional classroom setting we offer is to teach the skills component after students have completed the AHA web based CPR course. When the student completes the web based course, they print out the course completion certificate and bring it to class for skills verification. Each student pays for the course when they log onto the AHA web site to take the course. It typically takes about an hour to complete the web based course and anywhere from half an hour to an hour to complete the skills component. When the student has completed both components (on-line course and skills verification) they receive their AHA CPR card. Students should print out a receipt if they can be reimbursed by an employer. Here's the link to the web site: www.onlineaha.org.
